The Canadian Society for Psychomotor Learning and Sport Psychology (SCAPPS) had its beginnings in Edmonton in 1969 as a meeting of scholars, both faculty and graduate students, interested in research in psychomotor learning and sport psychology. It was founded as a society in Banff, Alberta, in 1977.

 

Objective

 

SCAPPS has as its main objectives the following:

 

  • to promote the study of motor control, motor learning, motor development, and sport psychology in Canada.
  • to encourage the exchange of views and scientific information in the fields related to psychomotor learning and sport psychology.

Josephine Mills Research Awards

Description

 

The Down Syndrome Research Foundation (DSRF) has established the Josephine Mills Research Awards to honour and recognize outstanding researchers in the fields of Down syndrome (DS) and MEG research. Jo Mills was the founding Executive Director of the DSRF and recently retired from this position. Jo has been honored with a 2001 Chancellor's Distinguished Service Award from Simon Fraser University and a service award from Down Syndrome International in 1999. She was inducted into the Who's Who of Canadian Women and in 1999 was nominated for a YWCA Women of Distinction Award. In 2006 she was awarded the Governor General's Meritorious Service Medal and was inducted into the Order of British Columbia in 2007, in recognition of her service to the field of developmental disability in Canada.
