Drs. Sebastian Harenberg and David Hancock (co-supervisors) invite applications for a funded doctoral researcher (50%) and mental performance consultant (50%). The successful candidate will be conducting research in the area of group dynamics and work as a part-time mental performance consultant with the athletics department at St. Francis Xavier University (StFX). The successful candidate will complete relevant coursework at Memorial University (MUN, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador) but will be based otherwise at StFX (Antigonish, Nova Scotia). The baseline funding for the PhD student will be a minimum of $30,000 per year. The successful candidate will be expected/supported to apply for other internal and external funding to supplement the income. Other income (e.g., research funding, teaching/TA opportunities) may also be available.
Qualifications
Required – Candidates must hold a Master’s degree by August 1st, 2026 in Sport Psychology, Social Psychology or a related academic discipline. Evidence of working towards/having completed the Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) credential is required.
Preferred – Candidates should have completed coursework in research methods (quantitative and/or qualitative) and statistics. Evidence of scholarly work (e.g., published journal articles, conference presentations) is preferred.
