SCAPPS Student Support Initiative – Travel Award

Award Overview

The SCAPPS Student Support Initiative is intended to provide students with financial support to attend the annual SCAPPS conference. There are two  initiatives/options that students may apply for:

  1. Student Conference Travel Support (up to $750 per student) – open to all student members. This funding is intended to help financially support students to attend the annual SCAPPS conference. Money can be used to offset the cost of conference registration fees, travel, accommodation, etc. Amounts awarded take into consideration geographic location impacting the cost of travel to the conference location.
  2. Student Conference Travel Support (up to $750 per student) – open to all student members who self-identify as belonging to an equity-deserving group. This funding is intended to help financially support students to attend the annual SCAPPS conference. Money can be used to offset the cost of conference registration fees, travel, accommodation, etc. Amounts awarded take into consideration geographic location impacting the cost of travel to the conference location.

Eligibility

Applicants to both initiatives must be registered in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at the time of application or at the time of the conference. Applicants must not have already received financial support from SCAPPS in the previous two years.

Applicants to the EDI Support initiative must self-identify that they belong to an equity-deserving group. The student’s faculty supervisor must also sign the application form and attest to the student’s eligibility and the financial need to attend the SCAPPS conference.

Adjudication and Announcement of Support

Applications will be screened for eligibility and entered into a lottery for funding support. Eligible applications will be randomly selected for funding support and the students will be notified of the results by email.

Details regarding applicants and students who are provided with funding will not be publicly announced. Information will be shared about the number of students supported through each initiative and the amount of funding awarded, but students’ names and identifying information will not be publicly shared and will only be reviewed by the SCAPPS Executive during the screening process.
